I'm proud of Crystal Castles for being able to come up with such an individual sound, basically inventing their own genre, something which is practically impossible to achieve in our contemporary society of music appropriations. The genre bitpop is an eclectic combination of early video game sounds with modern day instruments and vocals. The addition of Atari chips produces tweaking noises and bleeping sensations reminiscent of computer game noises from the 70s and 80s.
Apart from throwing chopped up vocal snippets over intensely pulsating videogame-esque electro vibes, the duo remix tracks intro absolute insanity.
Alice's hard hitting vocal effects definitely flavour the sound with an escapist intensity, reaching so deep and giving almost too much emotion to digest.
Here are two new tracks off the long-awaited Crystal Castles Album.
I guess these aren't as shattering and chaotic as some of their past songs, but there's still that ethereal quality that we adore.
